Signs of ADHD in Adults
Attention
- Losing track of tasks, keys, phones, and deadlines
- Starting many projects and finishing few
- Zoning out in conversations and meetings
- Putting off tasks needing focus, then rushing at the last minute
Restlessness and Impulsivity
- Feeling driven, restless, or bored fast
- Interrupting or finishing other people's sentences
- Impulsive spending, quitting jobs, or making big choices on the spot
- Trouble waiting in lines or traffic
ADHD starts in childhood, even when no one notices until adulthood. Many adults learned to cope with long hours, coffee, and stress, until a new job, a baby, or a promotion stretched those coping skills too far.
ADHD in Women Often Gets Missed
Girls with ADHD often daydream quietly instead of acting out, so many reach adulthood without a diagnosis. Women often get treated for anxiety or depression first. Signs include feeling overwhelmed by daily tasks, constant mental clutter, and working twice as hard to look organized. Hormone changes around periods, pregnancy, and menopause often make symptoms worse.

How Adult ADHD Gets Diagnosed
A screening test like the one above is a first step. A diagnosis takes a full evaluation:
- A psychiatric evaluation: a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner reviews your history, symptoms, and how ADHD affects work and home. Often one or two visits.
- Psychological testing: a psychologist uses interviews, rating scales, and attention testing to confirm ADHD and rule out look-alikes such as anxiety, depression, sleep problems, or learning differences. Testing takes longer and costs more, but answers more questions.
Bring old report cards or a parent's memories if you have them. ADHD symptoms need to have started in childhood.
ADHD Treatment Options
Medication
Stimulants such as methylphenidate and amphetamine-based medications work for most adults with ADHD. Non-stimulants such as atomoxetine and viloxazine help when stimulants don't fit. Stimulants are Schedule II controlled substances, so prescribers check in regularly and refill carefully. Federal rules extended through December 31, 2026 allow ADHD medication by telehealth without a first in-person visit.
Therapy and Coaching
Cognitive behavioral therapy for adult ADHD builds systems for planning, time, and follow-through, and helps with the shame many adults carry after years of feeling behind. ADHD coaching adds day-to-day accountability.
Daily Supports
Calendars with alarms, body doubling, breaking tasks into small steps, regular sleep, and exercise all help. Supports work best alongside treatment.

ADHD in Las Vegas
Las Vegas runs on shifts, side gigs, and 24-hour schedules, and ADHD makes irregular routines harder. Rotating shifts scramble sleep, and poor sleep makes focus worse. Fast-paced jobs on the Strip sometimes suit ADHD brains well, until paperwork, scheduling, or a promotion to management arrives. And ADHD raises the risk of impulsive spending and gambling, a real concern in a town with slot machines in the grocery store.
Two Stories From Around the Valley
These stories are examples, not real people or reviews.
Renee, Henderson
Renee, 38, is a nurse and a mom of two. For years she blamed herself for running late, losing her keys, and lying awake replaying her to-do list. Treated twice for anxiety, she still felt behind. A psychological evaluation found ADHD. With medication from Jasmine, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and a few new systems, Renee says she finally feels like the person she always knew she was.
DeShawn, Spring Valley
DeShawn, 27, is a bartender at a Strip resort. He thrived on busy nights but quit three community college classes after missing assignments. An evaluation confirmed ADHD. He started CBT for ADHD with Daniel, an LCPC, built a phone system for deadlines, and finished his first full semester.
What ADHD Evaluation and Treatment Cost in Las Vegas
