Meet Your Neighbors

These are composite stories. Names and details are invented.

Kevin, North Las Vegas

Kevin drives rideshare out of North Las Vegas and has no insurance. His chest tightened every time he merged on the 215, so he started turning down airport runs. He called Miracle Minds Therapy on Las Vegas Boulevard North, paid a sliding fee based on his income, and applied for Medicaid the same week. Two months later, Medicaid covers his sessions.

Lupe, Henderson

Lupe cleans houses in Henderson and pays for her own health care. Her husband died last spring. She started with a free grief group at Nathan Adelson Hospice, then booked weekly counseling at UNLV's clinic for $50 a session.

Ray, East Las Vegas

Ray, 61, lost his job and his insurance in the same month. His antidepressant ran out a week later. He called the state's SNAMHS West Charleston clinic, got an appointment for reduced-cost medication care, and kept his refills going while his Medicaid application went through.
